I have read a book called “Shoe Addicts Anonymous”.

The book is written by Beth Harbison, and was published in June 2007. Beth Harbison is the author behind the bestselling books “When doubt, add butter”, “Secrets of a shoe addict” and the book I’ve read “Shoe addicts anonymous”. As we can almost tell by the titles of these books, Ms. Harbison mainly writes girly books about what most girls cares about.

In the book we are following four different women, and they have one thing in common; shoes.

Deeply in debt, underachieving waitress Lorna Rafferty realizes she might have a problem when, arriving home with a new pair of expensive shoes that she just had to have, she discovers that the electricity in her apartment has been turned off for non-payment. Clearly, things have to change, but Lorna refuses to give up the sensual and emotional pleasure she gets from acquiring new shoes, and makes an ad to meet other enthusiasts who share her size and are willing to trade shoes.

Lorna’s ad attracts Helene Zaharis. Mrs. Zaharis's politician husband keeps her on a tight leash and cancels her credit cards as a way of controlling her. When Helene went shopping for shoes one day, he had canceled all of her credit cards, so she couldn’t pay for the shoes she desperately needed. Helene did what any extreme shoe addict would do, putted the shoes in her handbag and walked straight out. Unfortunately for Helene someone caught this on a camera, and if the pictures came out to the papers, her husband would clearly not be elected president.

Then there is Sandra Vanderslice, the agoraphobic, overweight (and surprisingly successful) phone-sex operator who joins the others on the advice of her therapist.

And the last member of the support group is Jocelyn Bowen. Jocelyn Is a nanny for the family from hell. She barely knows a sole from a heel but she will do anything to get out of the house.

On Tuesday nights, these women meet to trade shoes in a group called Shoe Addicts Anonymous, that’s why the book got its name. In no time the ladies are sharing life stories and become good friends. In the process of treating these shoes, they form friendships that will help them each triumph over their problems—from secret pasts to blackmail, bankruptcy, and dating. Funny, emotional, and powerful, Shoe Addicts Anonymous is the perfect read for any woman who loves shoes, friends and shopping.
