Hi, my name is Sean Collins, and I’m 21 years old. I’ve just started my first year at college in London.

Last year my girlfriend found out that she was pregnant, and that I were the father of her child. I freaked out completely, and I didn’t know what to do. So I asked my father , as if it was one of my friends problem. But I didn’t get much sense out of him. He talked a lot about abortion and stuff, but I knew that Jane wouldn’t accept that as a possible solution to our problem. So it was then my real problem started.

I had to make a choice even if it was hard. You see: I loved Jane, but I loved my parents too. I didn’t even know if I was ready to be a father, but I didn’t want to loose Jane either. We were young, and I knew that we probably wouldn’t make it without our parents financial help.

Anyway, Jane and I sat down for a long and serious talk. We found out that we should give it a try, living on our own. We knew that it was not going to be easy, but as long as we loved each other we were going to make it, together.

We rented a furnished flat near by the college I went to. It wasn’t much, but it was ours. The rent was 200 pounds a month. And there was two very small, but nice bedrooms, one small kitchen, one perfect livingroom and a very big clean bathroom.

Seven months later Jane gave birth to a beautiful girl. She looked exactly like her mother, with big blue eyes, and a perfect little nose. Tiny little feet and tiny fingers. Everything were so tiny about her, but she was so beautiful. When I looked at Jane with my little daughter in her arms, I knew that I’d made the right choice, even if my parents wouldn’t talk to me. You see, after I decided to stay with Jane, they wouldn’t talk to me. Just because they meant that she should have taken the abortion, so all we could forget the whole thing. But Jane’s parents had been a great help.

The next five months of our daughter Jean’s life I went to school in the morning , came home for dinner and then I went to work at the garage named «Larry’s». I got the job through Jane’s father, Pete, because he knew the owner of the place. When I thought about all the things we owed Pete and Joan, I really felt ashamed.

When Jean was old enough, Jane’s mother Joan took care of her while I was at school and Jane was at work. She worked as a shop assistant at a big shopping center down town. It was a very well paid job, so after two or three months we had a pretty good economy. So we started a college found for Jean.

Then on my 22nd birthday mum phoned me. She apologised for their behaviour, and she even begged me to forgive them. I told her about all the hard times I and Jane had been through, and about all the times we could have needed their help. When she heard that, she burst out crying. We said goodbye, and I hang up the phone. It was my first birthday without my parents, but I didn’t care, because I had Jane and Jean. So after I’d hung up the phone, I took a beautiful little box out of my pocket, took a deep breath and walked towards Jane. There in front of her I went down on my knees and asked her to marry me. She made me the happiest man on earth when she said yes !

Two weeks later we married. Oh, Jane was so pretty when she walked up the church floor together with her father, with her long blond hair, big blue eyes and everything was so perfect. The church was almost filled up and even mum and dad were there. Even better was the fact that they had arranged the whole wedding. That day was the happiest day of my life, except the day that Jean was born. I had not only got married to the most beautiful girl in the world, I’d also got my parents back as a «wedding gift».

Well that’s my story. Now we’ve started to make new friends. Me, my wife and our daughter Jean. Well, what can I say ? It’s called love.
